The Use Of Drone To Map Property

Drones have quickly expanded their applications in diverse fields. Today therefore you will find drones being used in search & rescue operations as well as in firefighting. There are drones being used as ambulances, in oil & gas applications beside in agriculture and construction industries. Of course, drones find great use in SWAT and other law enforcement agency roles. It is interesting but not usual or unique to see a property mapping drone today. Attempts are already underway to use these unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs in the real estate role. However, at the moment US Federal Aviation Administration or FAA is yet to clear the use of drones in commercial roles. Today such cases are dealt with individually and cleared.

Property mapping drone is obvious fallout from the capabilities of an UAV. UAVs or drones are fast and cheap. These can quite easily replace fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Till now property mapping was being carried out by aerial photography in conjunction with ground surveys. The various uses of drones in similar applications include crop management, mapping and livestock monitoring. All these also require the endurance and speed of drones that already have the capability of high resolution photography including thermal imaging. You will find that an agriculture drone has already found application in the mapping of large areas of land. It is therefore quite easy to use aerial photography especially using video cameras to carry out real-time mapping of a property subject of course to clearance from the FAA. Provided the requirement of such a drone is not commercial in nature there may be no objection from the FAA’s office.
